The Basics

What is Sezzle?

Sezzle is a payment solution that increases sales and basket sizes by enabling your customers to “Shop Now and Pay Later” with simple installment plans. We break down larger purchases into 4 equal payments spread over 6 weeks, with the first payment due at the time of the transaction and the remaining payments due every 2 weeks, thereafter.

Why should I add Sezzle to my store?

Sezzle provides several benefits to online retailers, including:

  • Increased incremental sales, enabling more customers to afford to shop at your online store.
  • Increased basket sizes, enabling your customers to buy more at the time of purchase.
  • Increased conversions, giving your customers the peace of mind from paying over time, with no interest charges.
How do I sign up?

Please complete our simple Merchant Sign-up. Once completed, we’ll touch base directly to finish the sign-up process. In many cases, this can be completed in less than an hour.

I'm an international merchant. Can I sign up?

Yes! We know that reaching USA customers is important to many international merchants. Our fees remain the same for international customers and we settle funds on a rolling 7-day basis. We automatically convert the payments into your currency on deposit. Learn More.

How do I get paid and who takes the risk?

You get paid upfront in full, less the merchant fee, on a rolling 7-day settlement. Sezzle takes on the credit and fraud risk.

What e-commerce platforms do you support?

Sezzle is currently available on Shopify only, but we plan to add the following e-commerce platforms soon:

  • Magento
  • BigCommerce
  • WooCommerce
  • Demandware

We are also creating a public API that will allow non-platform users to implement Sezzle as well.

Do the Sezzle home page and product page widgets help?

Definitely! The merchants that add Sezzle to their home page and product pages (ie "Just 4 payments of $50 with Sezzle.") experience increased sales and basket sizes due to the awareness of our installment payment system.

Make sure to ask the Sezzle team how they can help you add these widgets to your shop's website. We love to help merchants increase their sales.

What are the best practices for promoting Sezzle to drive sales?

We usually recommend the following plan to our merchants to maximize the effectiveness of Sezzle:

  1. Start out with a promotion to your recent abandoned checkouts, letting them know about Sezzle's installment product.
  2. Add us to your Instagram header. We love Instagram, and so do our users.
  3. Post about your addition of Sezzle to your Instagram audience. You may pick-up additional sales on the spot.
  4. Add a banner ad about Sezzle to your home page. This lets your consumers know about the product availability immediately.
  5. Add Sezzle to your product page. (ie "Just 4 payments of $50 with Sezzle.")
  6. Talk with your Sezzle representative to generate more cross-promotional ideas. We love to work closely with our merchants to drive sales.
How do we get listed in your Shop Directory?

We plan on automating the process soon, but for now please email our marketing team at marketing@sezzle.com

To get listed we require the following assets:

  • A vector logo file
  • A 640 x 640 pixel image
  • A link to your home page
  • A link to your instagram

Managing Your Merchant Account

How do I set up withdrawals to my business account?

Simply login to your Merchant Dashboard and add your withdrawal bank account to your profile.

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

We allow you to reset your password by sending an email verification to the email address on file. The link is available in our Merchant Login page.

Managing Sezzle Orders

How do I handle a refund or return with Sezzle?

Sezzle directs all questions and disputes from customers to you, the Merchant. Sezzle is reliant upon the Merchant to initiate any refund or return.

Sezzle will only process refunds following the issue of a refund request by the Merchant via the Sezzle Merchant Dashboard.

  • Sezzle will send refunds to the customer’s bank account or card used for the refunded purchase.
  • Sezzle will notify the shopper of the refund and of the changes to their payment plan.
  • Any refunds will be accounted for on the next settlement date. Refund amounts will be clearly identified in the settlement information.
  • Sezzle Merchant fees are non-refundable in the event of a refund.
  • Sezzle is not able to reverse or alter refunds once they have been initiated.
  • You must never refund cash to a customer for orders placed with Sezzle.

To initiate a refund in the Merchant Dashboard, follow this process:

  1. Log into the Sezzle Merchant Dashboard
  2. Navigate to the order you would like to refund
  3. Click on the order that you would like to refund to expand the details of the transaction
  4. Click ‘Refund Payment’
  5. Enter the refund amount in both boxes and click ‘Submit'.
  6. The refund will then process within the next 2 business days

Once a refund has been issued the process cannot be reversed.

How are partial refunds handled?

Any refund other than the full order amount is considered a partial refund. The dynamics of the refund process are completely handled by Sezzle to simplify the process for our Merchants.

We process partial refunds in the following manner:

  • Sezzle will automatically update the customer’s payment schedule by reducing the installments or processing a refund back to customer’s bank account or card where required.
  • The refund is applied to the 4th installment first, then the 3rd installment and so on.

Example: If the order value is $200 and the customer has paid 1 installment of $50 then in case of a $60 partial refund Sezzle will cancel the customer's 4th installment of $50, and reduce the 3rd installment to $10.

How are full refunds handled?

In the case of a full refund, Sezzle will cancel all scheduled payments and refund any completed payments to the bank account or card initially selected for repayment. Sezzle will not initiate a refund until notified by the Merchant.

My customer wants to modify the Sezzle order. How do I handle this?

Once Sezzle has approved an order, the order details and order value cannot be changed. The Merchant is able to issue partial or full refunds if items are not in stock or cannot be fulfilled. Sezzle does not support the addition of items to an order.

A customer will need to place a new order for the additional items or cancel the previous order and create a new order for all the items if they wish to use Sezzle again on the same payment schedule.

How do I cancel an order?

To cancel an order, follow the refund process outlined above and refund the full amount of the order.

Payment Settlement

When do I receive the funds from a purchase?

Once you're setup, transfers arrive in your bank account on a rolling 7-day basis. Settlements will be batched together for the total purchase amount, minus any Sezzle fees. Bank holidays can push payment settlement times, so please be aware of these holidays as you await Sezzle payment settlement.

How is currency conversion handled on settlement?

As currency prices vary constantly, it’s not possible to know for certain the FX rate you’ll receive on a settlement. The online rate you see at various sites, such as XE.com, is the mid-market rate: the average prices at which people are buying and selling the currency. The actual FX rate includes markups from financial institutions. When Sezzle performs an FX conversion to settle your payments, funds are usually converted at a rate approximately 2% above the daily mid-market rate.

As an example, assume your business is based in Australia, you settle all charges in AUD, but you charge your U.S. customers in their native USD: You process a charge of $150 USD for your customer.

  1. Assuming the daily rate is $1.32 AUD per $1 USD (the "mid-market" rate is $1.35 AUD per $1 USD in this example), Sezzle, in partnership with its financial partners, converts the $150 USD to $198.48 AUD.
  2. Sezzle then deducts the standard Sezzle fee of $11.91 AUD (6.0%).
  3. Sezzle sends a net of $186.57 AUD to your local (Australian, in this example) bank account on file with us.
